May 24, 2016 Fishing Report & Update
Hello to everyone out there----time sure goes by fast when a person is having fun. I have been fishing quite a bit in the past week or two and just thought I would give you all an update as to what I know (or at least think I know). With fishing sometimes when you think you know what is going on the fish suddenly have other ideas and have a way of making a fool out of us. I guess that is why they call it fishing and not catching.
Audubon seems to be getting a bit better as time goes on and water warms. I am encouraged as to what I am seeing. There are good numbers of fish. A lot of smaller ones but also some nice fish mixed in. There are walleyes, pike and smallies around to be caught there and they seem to be at various depths right now. Most presentations will work---try different things and depths and see what works the best that day. My nicer fish have been on cranks.
Missouri River at Pick City: the river is picking up for walleyes also. Right now there are more smaller fish being caught and mostly with crawlers and minnows. Don't be scared to try crank baiting also in shallower water. The crankbait bite should get better as time goes on also.
Lake Sakakawea: There are a few more fish starting to bite on the lake now. The fishing should be getting better and better as it warms and further post spawn. Shallow seems to be the best right now from what I am hearing. Jigs and minnows seem to be working.
Missouri River south of Bismarck: I haven't been there for a couple of weeks but from what I hear, the better bite is south more toward the state line. I am hearing good numbers of smaller fish but also a fair amount of Keeper walleyes and quite a few pike and also some nice crappies.
I hope this finds you all fine and enjoying the weather. Hopefully the wind will start getting a bit less overall also.
